Missing Brazilian participants’ scores

The scores reported here are for the first batch of Brazilian participants for whom the feedback system broke down this week. We will endeavour to add scores for other participants by Monday 8 June.

Note – please let us know if you took the Long-Term Face Memory Test on 2 June and your scores are missing. We were not able to match up the scores of 4 participants. These may be your scores.

Some of you took the long-term memory test more than once. This does not surprise us given that the feedback system was not working properly. However, where we spotted this, we have reported your FIRST attempt only. We always delete later attempts.

Please note that although the feedback system did not work at the end of the test, the second part of the long-term face memory test was working perfectly. We can see all your data in the correct manner.

We will individually e-mail you with your scores and full feedback over the next few days.

We will also report your final scores to Super-Recognisers International who commissioned us to complete this testing procedure as they were approached by a potential Brazilian TV production company.

Could you be a Super-Recogniser Test.

For your information based on the first 1,000,000 participants on the 14-trial 'fun' Grid Test you took first (Could you be a Super-Recogniser Test): 0.71% scored 14 (maximum) 4.84% scored 13 and above 15.34% scored 12 and above 33.91% scored 11 and above 55.09% scored 10 and above Note: The 14-trial 'fun' test is not diagnostic of true face recognition ability- we have found that a few super-recognisers (as measured by follow up tests) score as low as 10 out of 14 (although most score above this), sometimes due to slow image loading times, which is why we designate this mark as "possibly indicative of super-recognition ability". However, there is a high correlation between performance on this test and other face recognition tests.

For your information, based on 5,000 participants taking the online Cambridge Face Memory Test as part of our current research: Top 5% scored 94 and above Top 10% scored 93 and above Top 25% scored 89 and above Top 50% scored 83 and above Please note: The 'average' person (50%) taking our online tests tends to score far higher than 'average' participants in other research, as we tend to 'attract' participants with far better face recognition ability than normal (most research reports a mean of about 68-70%) on the Cambridge Face Memory Test. This probably means that all entries in the list above suffer from the same recruitment bias. Therefore, if your score was in the top 10% according to the list above, in reality, you may be in the top 5% of the population or even better and so on. Indeed, some researchers have used 88.2% as minimum criteria for super-recognition (e.g., Bobak et al., 2016).
